Situated in the historic Coffin School, the Egan Maritime Foundation was established in 1996 to advance the appreciation, documentation, preservation and scholarly study of the art, history, literature, architecture and traditions of Nantucket. All of which are shaped by the maritime character of the people who live by the sea.  For within these people lies, in great part, the story of America.

In addition to educational programs, exhibits, and publications, the Egan Maritime Foundation seeks to perpetuate the legacy of the school's founder, Admiral Sir Isaac Coffin, through its support of nautical training for the youth of Nantucket.
