Our Historic Coffin School
The Egan Maritime Institute is located within the historic Coffin Street at Winter Street in Nantucket Town. Completed in 1854, after two years of construction, the Coffin School is an impressive example of Greek Revival-style architecture. Refurbished in the 1980s, the former school house retains its original details and now houses a spacious lecture/concert hall and exhibition galleries where the Egan Maritime Institute presents ongoing displays, special exhibits and speaker programs – all related to Nantucket’s rich maritime history.
