Collections
On the premises of the Coffin School on Nantucket, the Egan Maritime Institute maintains a collection of fine art, maritime books, and artifacts related to the maritime world that have been collected by both founders and several generous donors. A highlight of the Egan Maritime collection is a commissioned series of paintings by contemporary British artist Rodney Charman that depicts over 200 years of Nantucket history.

Items from Egan Maritime’s collection are displayed throughout the Coffin School and are included in exhibitions whenever possible. The collection recently underwent an in-depth restructuring of its catalog, and the conservation and restoration of several pieces.

While Egan Maritime is not actively engaged in the acquisition of objects for its collection, the institute is grateful for gifts to the collection that continue to be received, preserving Nantucket’s maritime legacy for generations to come.
