The Egan Maritime Institute is located within the historic Coffin School on Winter Street in Nantucket Town. Completed in 1854, after two years of construction following The Great Fire, the Coffin School is an impressive example of Greek Revival architecture. Refurbished in the 1980s, the former school house retains its original details and now houses a spacious lecture/concert hall and exhibition galleries where Egan Maritime hosts special speaker programs and maritime movies in July and August.  Other Nantucket organizations periodically mount special exhibitions – all related to Nantucket’s rich maritime history.
